This set of activities is designed for a STEM Ambassador to use when introducing their work in the highways and transport industry to pupils aged 5 to 7. They can also be used by teachers to introduce transportation related activities and careers.

The resources contain a presentation which advises the STEM Ambassador on how to engage with the pupils they are talking to and introduce the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation (CIHT).  In addition it includes a selection of 4 activities designed to last about 30 minutes each and the STEM Ambassador can choose which of these to deliver.

  • 'How do certain types of disruption affect transportation infrastructure?' looks at how factors like snow and flooding affect pupils journey to school
  • 'What transport do we find at different scales?' shows how infrastructure exists on many scales and shows how people use different modes of transport depending on the scale of their journey
  • 'How is global warming predicted to affect the UK's weather?' looks at what will affect transport infrastructure in the next 30 years and focuses on the impact of climate change. It shows how asset managers, transport engineers and transport planners work to solve transport problems
  • 'Who does what? shows how asset managers, transport engineers and transport planners work to solve transport problems and consider climate change

Once the activities are completed there is a final concluding slide which gives information on how to become a transport professional.
