Tomorrow’s Engineers Week takes place from 7 to 11 November 2022 and is celebrating its 10th year with a live schools event – Future Minds Live – to inspire the next generation of young people into an engineering career.
Since it began in 2012, hundreds of thousands of young people have been involved in Tomorrow’s Engineers Week. This year, the focus is on looking forward to the future of engineering and schools from all over the UK will be invited to come together and discuss their ideas for what engineering could achieve in the next decade.
Inspiring the engineers of the future
Future Minds Live, taking place on 7 October, will give young people the opportunity to hear from real-life engineers and voice their ideas about how engineering can help shape the future. Around 50 young people will be chosen to attend the event, where they will discuss their ideas about how engineering can help shape 4 key sectors: entertainment, sport, technology and environment.
The event will be co-hosted by STEM-champion Fayon Dixon and notable engineer Simon Crowther, and will be filmed and edited into a broadcast. This will be available to watch from 7 November, the first day of Tomorrow’s Engineers Week.
All schools across the UK will be able to watch the broadcast and engage with the conversation. Tomorrow’s Engineers Week will be publishing a toolkit and lesson plan in the weeks prior, which will give students around the country a chance to get inspired by the ideas discussed. After watching the broadcast, schools will get the opportunity to vote on their favourite of the featured ideas and submit their own thoughts on where engineering is headed in the future.
